Looking forward to next week, when a new edition of Anne Brontë’s Agnes Grey is published, Samantha Ellis spotlights the lesser known sister in a Guardian piece, where she argues that Agnes Grey was a clear model for Jane Eyre. Samantha Ellis’ book, Take Courage: Anne Brontë and the Art of Life will be published by Chatto & Windus next Thursday to coincide with the new release of Agney Grey.
Shappi Khorsandi, who was longlisted for the Jhalak prize longlist for her novel Nina is Not OK, has withdrawn from consideration, saying she felt her skin colour and not her book was being judged.
Joe Wicks monopolises this week’s books chart with his books on diet and exercise. Other notable entrants to this week’s chart include Joanna Cannon with The Trouble with Goats and Sheep: A Novel and Jessie Burton with The Muse: A Novel, both of which came out in paperback in the last week of December. You can hear an interview with Jessie Burton here.
I’ve just been reading Agnes Grey for the first time. So far, so good.

I have re-read and been slightly obsessed with Jane Eyre for the last few months - to the extent that when I read Rapunzel to my four year old she was able to point out several parallels with JE. I can’t wait to read Agnes Grey - on the list for 2017.
